A friend of mine works in the corporate head office for one of the big-5 retailers. The following “Chinese” Proverb circulated in their office, and eventually made it’s way to me…
ABOUT MONEY…
With money you can buy a house but not a home
With money you can buy a clock but not time
With money you can buy a bed but not sleep
With money you can buy a book but not knowledge
With money you can see a doctor but not good health
With money you can buy a position but not respect
With money you can buy blood but not life
With money you can buy sex but not lifeThis Chinese Proverb Originiated from the Netherlands. This proverb has gone around the world 8 times. Now it is your turn to have good luck once you have received it. This is not a joke. Your luck will arrive my mail or via the internet.
One man got his first copy of the proverb in 1953 and asked his secretary to make him 20 copies. Nine hours later he won $99 Million in the lottery of in his coutry. An employee of his received the same card, but did not forward it. A few days later he lost his job after that, he changed his mind, sent it and became rich.
…blah blah blah… send this to 20 friends and a magical pony with a rainbow backside will descend upon your office and defecate bricks of gold on your desk.
My friend pointed out that this kind of garbage circulates their office all the time, and that it was absolutely appalling to her the amount of time that people spend reading and sending this stuff around.
Which leads me to the following comments:
1) “This Chinese Proverb Brings Luck. It originated in the Netherlands.”
So who wrote it then? Must have been a Mexican seal hunter in Australia…
2) This thing implicitly says that money isn’t important… but if you send it out you’ll make $99M… so DO IT NOW!
3) This proverb stresses that Money doesn’t buy happeiness, life, respect, joy, or health. LET’S FACE REALITY: A *lack* of money creates divroce, heartbreak, heartache, stress-induced illness, and total distress. You decide for YOU: what path serves YOU best?
4) So if money doesn’t matter to my friend’s co-workers, then FINE – let’s remove it for them… we’ll see how many of them actually show up on Monday for work. Not happening.
Go ahead and play down the importance of money… just keep that disgusting socialist notion flowing around… don’t take responsibility for the fact that you’re not happy with the amount of money you’re making, then hide behind disappointing little powerpoint presentations that you read while you’re at work, WASTING your boss/owner’s money… leeching on your boss/owner’s ability to create a business that serves the entire nation… unbelievable.
It’s time for me to put the excuses aside and get serious about making some REAL money… money that will give me CHOICE – the CHOICE to have whatever kind of bed, house, books, doctors, that I so CHOOSE… and money that will give me the FREEDOM and TIME to have the most amazing realtionships, to go to the gym to work out regularly, enjoy relaxed family dinners, opportunity to contribute to any community project I like, and freedom and security to live the life of my choosing.
I think that working a traditional day job is a fantastic thing for a lot of people. And I applaud *anyone* who is working at something that they are passionate about, whether that’s in a job setting, entrepreneurship, MLM, whatever….
For example – my mother. She has been a teacher for 20 years, and has a passion for kids that I didn’t even know was possible. Every Fall she is eager to go back for another year, and every Summer she says that it’s every year is getting better and better. That’s fantastic!
What absolutely infuriates me is this…
People who choose to live all-day in a denial-ridden fog, complaining about their income, cynically and irresponsibly joking about “Freedom 85” while they sit in their cubicle at a job they hate, reading stupid socialist Dutch-Chinese proverbs that espouse laziness, while their employer cuts them a cheque for work that they didn’t do, for money that they didn’t rightfully earn. Again – Unbelievable.
If you haven’t done it yet, it is now time for you to read “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand. This book has been waiting for you since 1957, and will help put you on a path of financial responsibility – and success – that you so rightfully will EARN if you are ready to become the best person that you can BE, and you’re ready to get to work.
Onwards and Upwards,
TF
